BEAUTYGrowing up in the Soviet Union you often didn’t have the access to fancy foreign cosmetics to keep you looking beautiful. Russian women turned to natural remedies that you can make at home. Current trend these days is actually all about having natural beauty products. Skin care made at home with simple ingredients that you can find in your kitchen on daily basis.
My mom always took care of her self and taught me from the young age to love my skin and care for it. My mom is 60 now and looks amazing for her age, considering that she has always been a sun worshiper all her life.
She use to make all kinds of home masks from oatmeal, strawberries, sour cream, hair remedies from caster oil, olive oil, eggs and mayonnaise or cucumber for your eyes.
I know to some it might sound gross, but in reality it really does work and you don’t end up spending $100’s of dollars in expensive salon products. I am guilty of spending a lot of money on all kinds of products, I do love looking beautiful and taking care of my skin and hair is very important to me and often in the past fell victim for outrageously expensive creams and hair products.
I want to share some of the few basic home care treatments that you can try for your self.
HOME
Olives for motion sickness
Motion sickness is accompanied by increased salivation, which is the body’s way of protecting teeth from stomach acid in the event of vomiting. Olives contain tannins, which dry the mouth out, so eating a few can eliminate the excess saliva. Treating that symptom can reduce nausea and keep the body from vomiting.
Oatmeal to soothe eczema
If you have eczema or simply have dry, irritated skin, try soaking in an oatmeal bath. Add two to three cups of colloidal, or finely ground, oatmeal to warm water and soak in it for 15 minutes. The oatmeal reduces inflammation and is thought to have an antihistamine effect.
Sugar Scrub
Use 2 parts sugar (regular white or brown sugar work great) to 1 part oil (almond, olive and coconut are great), add 1/2 tsp Vitamin E oil (or the gel from a few capsules), add other optional ingredients, and mix well:SUGAR
Here are some other combinations
Pumpkin Pie Scrub: 1 cup of brown sugar, 1/2 cup coconut oil, 1/2 tsp vitamin E oil and 1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spices (or just 1/2 tsp cinnamon)
Vanilla Brown Sugar Scrub: 1 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup almond oil, 1/2 tspVitamin E oil and 1 tsp real vanilla extract
Lemon Hand Scrub (for after washing dishes): 1 cup white sugar, 1/2 cup olive oil, 1/2 tsp vitamin E oil, 15-20 drops (or more) of lemon or orange essential oil
Vanilla Lavender Relaxing Facial Scrub: 1 cup white sugar, 1/2 cup almond oil, 1/2 tsp Vitamin E oil, 1/2 tsp real vanilla extract and 15 drops lavender essential oil SKIN
Avocado Face Mask
1/2 very ripe avocado, 1/4 cup honey. Preparation: Mash the avocado in a bowl, then stir in honey. Apply to skin and leave for 10 minutes. Rinse face with cool washcloth.
Listerine to dry out blisters
Mouthwash like Listerine is a powerful antiseptic, which can dry out blisters. Use cotton balls to dab Listerine onto blisters three times a day until they heal.
BEAH
Hair Care
Ingredient
Function
Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Hydrates hair as well as acts as a natural conditioner for the hair. Olive oil has long been used for beauty hair care. Olive oil is brilliant for nourishing brittle dry damaged hair, rejuvenating it and giving it a healthy glow.
Milk
Gives hair the soft feel.
Lemon
A natural astringent, lemon closes the pores in the scalp thereby getting rid of excess oil in your hair. A word of caution though, lemon can visibly lighten hair so make sure you use it diluted with enough water, in the ratio 1:2 for lemon and water respectively.
Coconut Oil
An excellent conditioner, making hair feel soft and lustrous.
Honey
For its moisturizing properties. Honey is very important in a homemade hair mask, especially if you have dry dull hair. It has restorative properties that adds moisture to lifeless hair, making it glowing and lustrous.
Apple Cider Vinegar
For eliminating any excess oils and grease in scalp and hair lengths as well as helping clear away irritating itchy dandruff.
